Pump Hole
![]() |

What kind of pump do I need to pump water out of a hole that's 175 deep?
This isn't a well. It's a huge project, need to pump out around 7 million gallons.
Summary - You will be looking at a 30 horsepower, 460VAC, nominal 3500 RPM , 60Hz, 400 gpm , 200 ft head motor pump to pump 7 million gallons out of the hole in two weeks. The pump design would be about a nominal 3x3x9 with the basic 9 in. impeller trimmed to match the design head.
With 50 Hz power supply you will need the larger impeller diameter. The pump will need to be put down into the hole because a high speed centrifugal pump will not lift cold water more than about 15 feet unless specially designed. If the water is deep and as the water level drops it may be necessary to reposition the pump.
There are a number of vendors of either inline or base-mounted motorpumps which could be suitable.
Supporting both the pump and piping will be an interesting design problem.
